About Mains & Drains
Mains & Drains is a UK channel and website about the systems that keep a home running: electricity, heating, water, drains, and what to do when they fail.
What we do
We make short, well-researched YouTube explainers on how British homes and infrastructure work, from why kettles can shake the National Grid to why British homes get so damp. This site turns those videos into practical guides: free advice first, then researched kit for people who want it.
Our principles
- Official advice first. We point to Be Ready, the Energy Saving Trust, GOV.UK, fire services and your network operator before we suggest buying anything.
- Honest about testing. We research products rather than lab-test them, and we say so. See how we choose.
- No paid placements. Brands can’t pay to appear in our guides.
- Clear about money. We earn from affiliate links, our printable guides and our book. See our affiliate disclosure.
- No investment or financial-product promotions.
